I've come across another little situation. This lady I know started her "new business" and is selling Mary Kay at a particular club. I know what the Sixth Tradition says and so does she (I hope she does she quotes the book like she's Miss AA). She even went so far as to use one of the rooms at the club to do facials! Is that extreme or am I just freaking out. The problem is I really like this lady and I'd love to help her but I think she's using the club and AA women to make money for her business. That doesn't sit well with me. I plan to tell her if she asks me again for a facial that I really don't want because I don't like Mary Kay products and I tried to tell her that, we all know how pushy sales people can be and she's one of those. I think she's going about it wrong, if she wanted to do facials, she could just call these people outside the club and AA but trying to schedule facials before a meeting? I hope not during the meeting but who knows? :162:

I'm alanon, which is based no the same principles as aa, and that is absolutely a no-no! People are NOT supposed to use connections in aa/alanon for business network reasons, so I think you are right to feel the way you do.

If you are the chairperson at that meeting , it is your responsibility to bring it to the group, and as a group decision , the group must address the situation as a whole. True we must never endorse , finance, or lend the followship name , but you said the club :15:, the club can affiliate with what ever they so choose to, Now , if it was in the meeting YOU would have to tell her to leave her makeup at the door. when the meeting start, we open up with prayer, when the meeting is over we close with prayer....when we close, then and only then you can get your mary kay on.

I guess I'd need to know more like if you are a club, or a meeting hall, or how rooms are rented, and things like that before I could jump on the tradition bandwagon.
Beyond that issue, could it be that this gal is just renting too much space in your head? For free?

I once sold girl scout cookies before an AA meeting and got in to a bit of trouble. I really did not know I was doing wrong and it hurt my feelings. Everyone seemed OK with it except for one woman. Now if it was during the meeting I'd understand, but what does it hurt to help another alcoholic out before and after a meeting? Then again if you hate MaryKay ( I do too) just don't buy any.

mmarq56,It really is group conscience, but it is against the sixth tradition of all of our 12 step fellowships. The chairperson and secretary should bring it up at group business meeting.
