Badly Exposed - TV, Movies, and the Media

I will not set anything godless before my eyes.
I hate the doing of transgression;
it will not cling to me.
Psalm 101:3, HCSB

The problem with TV and the movies is a lot more than demonic aliens, filthy language, and sex on seventy channels. We've been all over those things. They're all terrible. And everybody knows it. We're drawn to them for some sick, sinful reason, but nobody can justify the habit of enjoying that kind of entertainment. Not a single one of us would want to share a sofa with Jesus while that stuff was on the air.

But that's just the beginning of it . . . because even though we can learn to forego the seedier stuff and turn our tastes to more acceptable fare like documentaries and newsmagazines, game shows and Mayberry reruns, football and tennis matches, we still pay the price of forfeiting huge chunks of our time to what amounts to a mindless escape.

Things that require no thought of us, that fill in every line and complete every question, steal from us the desire to grow and create, to pour ourselves into other people, to listen to God no matter how strange the quietness feels at first. Promise you'll think about it.
