:29:I have heard many ways in which we identify ourselves in the rooms - some are intended to be "funny", others more "catchy", and lastly some ID's are "scary" because that person's true desire to stop drinking may be questionable:

"I'm an alcoholic grateful to be in recovery, my problem is John".

"Grateful recovering alcoholic named John".

"John, I'm a drunk".

"I choose not to drink today, my name is John".

"Alcoholic named John - and I say alcoholic first because I need to remember that's what got me here".

"John .. addicted to recovery".

"John .. addicted to everything".

The list can go on and on... just a random thought this morning. However we say it - mean it. We didn't come into these rooms because our lives were in control or because things were going so well. Remember, too, that our bottoms choose us - we don't choose our bottoms.

I try to avoid reading about and watching news stories because it's a potential?relapse trigger for me since my old career I drank away was in News/ TV-Radio broadcasting. I do not like to get stuck in the "coulda, shoulda, wouldas" - but I wanted to illustrate another example of how our disease kills.... Did you hear about the July 26th crash on the Taconic Parkway in New York where a mother carrying a carload of family and kids crashed after driving the wrong-way down the road? Autopsy results show she had more than 10 drinks that day and there was pot in her system; also a broken bottle of Absolut was found in the car. Horrifying accident killing a total of eight people. For the grace of God, there go I ... I often drove drunk and never seriously hurt or killed anyone or became the morning headlines .. thank God!

Welcome back, Carol!!!:1:
