What books have you all read that helped your recovery?

I have read the following:

The Heart of Addiction by Lance Dodes,
A Million Little Pieces by James Frey,
Addiction is a Choice by Jeffrey Schaler,
Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood by Koren Zailckas
SOS Sobriety by James Christopher,
The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure by Chris Prentiss,
Alcoholics Anonymous by Bill Wilson and
The Tao of Sobriety by David Gregson, Jay S. Efran, and G. Alan Marlatt.

I think The Heart of Addiction was the best at describing what addiction is and what causes it. I think younger people with binge-drinking problems (especially women) would get a lot out of Smashed. I think A Million Little Pieces was just a good read (memoir or fiction).

None of them helped me to recover, but I at least think I know what's going on.

The Dopeless Hope Fiend is a very good book. It chronicles the author's journey through his addiction which nearly killed him. The author, who by the way is an ex-cop, injects recovery themes throughout the book which makes it well worth reading.:1:

I would feel the same way about the book even if I were not the author, which I am.
