Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to need a hip replacement.
The first patient is examined within the hour, x-rayed the same day and has a surgery time booked for the following week.
The second patient sees a family doctor for a follow-up appointment a month later after 30 days of prescription drugs, then waits six weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray - which isn't reviewed for nearly a month - and finally has surgery scheduled for two weeks after that.
What's the difference in these two patients?
One is a golden retriever and the other is a senior citizen.
