rehab for young people

I am currently researching setting up a rehab for young people in London, England for a great kids charity called Kidsco. If anybody has any pertinent ideas on views on this subject, please drop a line. What do young adults want from rehab services? what is best practise? What don't you want? Sorry so fluid, but just starting on this project. Mark A.

Thank you for the replies and helpful addresses. My brother died aged 37 at the end of Jan, after years of fighting alcoholism. This is why I'm so passionate about this project. The research I've done is growing and growing. Would be good to hear from people who have been in rehabs and hear their views about it- the pro's and cons etc.

I went to a place called Caron Foundation for ACOA and Coda issues.

They have an adolescent programs.

Maybe they or other comprehensive addiction centers can help you.

Oh it was in 1992 and 1998 when I went there and the adolescent program was in existant both times in a separate building.

As someone who started recovery fairly young (and started on the road to alcoholism by age 15) I can tell you that from my experience adolescents want recovery to help them, but the reason why they often do not succeed until their 30s is because they don't want to be different. Going to AA or NA sets you apart from your peers, and adolescents are usually too afraid to take that step. I think that if I had had the opportunity to be mentored by other adolescents who were doing well in recovery, maybe I wouldn't have felt so hopeless and I might have sought recovery a lot sooner.

KUDOS TO YOU AND YOUR ENDEAVOR!!!!!!!!As an employee of a rehab,I can tell you what it's like here.I work with 13 to 25 yr.olds.We are a long term facility-avg stay is 4-6 mths.About 1/2 are court ordered,1/4 are tricked into coming{dumped} by their families and1/4 are thinking they might want to stop. This is not a happy place at first for the first two groups.It's up to us,the staff, to connect with and grab their attention ASAP.The fact that nearly all of us are in recovery ,helps tremendously,
