Not only do we all talk to ourselves, but we do it all the time. On a deeper level of consciousness than “Where did I put my glasses?” we ask & answer questions, weigh information & test different opinions. Our self-talk reinforces our reality to the extent that our entire self-concept & the esteem, or lack thereof, that flows from that concept is continuously re-created.

Affirmations are simply statements of positive truth. When we "do" affirmations, we take charge of that critical inner dialogue. By telling ourselves, "I am worthy even when I make a mistake," we legitimize that valid opinion whether or not we "feel" worthy at that moment. If we face ourselves in the mirror & say, "I am a lovable, competent person" we might hear an inner voice saying, "Who are you kidding?" But just the verbal expression of the positive self-definition enters an authoritative new voice into the inner dialogue.

Someone has said that affirmations are the quickest, least-bloody form of "brain surgery" ever devised. Of all the tools for self-rescue, what could be simpler or easier to use than affirmations?

I will use affirmations to reinforce realities that I know but don’t yet feel.

In my Coda group at the end of the meeting...we all go around the room and state our favorite affirmation. it is really cool and I always learn new ones from other people. just thought we could all share some here and learn from eachother.

mine is:

all the good I am seeking to be is now seeking me.:cool:

My very most favorite is quite long, but here it is:

I am willing to release the need to be unworthy.
I am worthy of the very best in life
and I now lovingly allow myself to accept it.
As I spend a few days doing this affirmation over and over
My outer effect pattern of procrastination will automatically begin to fade.
As I internally create a pattern of self worth,
then I no longer have the need to delay my good.

I got this from one of Louise Hay's books. The one with the rainbow on it.

When we "do" affirmations, we take charge of that critical inner dialogue

I have the worst critical inner diaglogue because at times I verbally express it through negative self talk. I am working on this daily. I guess my favourite affirmation is the following :-

"I am safe and all is well."

For me this affirmation helps when in the late evening or early morning and my head is racing with thoughts I find that it settles the mind enough so that I can undertake prayer and meditation. thats me
