STEPS 3 and 7 PRAYERS
In the second paragraph on page 63 of our Big Book is the Third Step
prayer and in the second paragraph on page 76 is the Seventh Step prayer.
Only four Steps and thirteen pages separate them but for whatever
reasons a lot of us seem to miss the wonderful and amazing resemblance
between them.
We make a decision in Step Three, (Made a decision to turn our will and
our lives over to the care of God as we understand Him), and carry it out in
Step Seven, (Humbly asked Him remove our shortcomings). Could the prayers
be interchanged without any distortion?
When the two prayers are put together to observe, it is evident just
how similar they are:
STEP 3 PRAYER
"God, I offer myself to thee-to build with me and to do with me as
Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy
will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to
those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of Life. May I do
Thy will always!"
STEP 7 PRAYER
"My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and
bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character
which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me
strength, as I go from here, to do your bidding. Amen."
