TIME AS HEALER

“Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations.” FAITH BALDWIN

Other personality characteristics that have been ascribed to compulsive/addictive personalities are: isolation, wishful thinking, sensitivity, perfectionism, impulsiveness & anxiety. Rather than indictments, we consider these qualities as guides to aid us in our pursuit of recovery.
If we did not use grandiosity as a shield to protect us from the criticism of others, would they see how really vulnerable we are?

Would self-pity really disappear if we didn’t begin by thinking of ourselves as victims?

Like grandiosity, defiance has been our shield. Can we lower it? What if we dared come out of our shell & involve ourselves with others? Can we risk being rejected?

If we stopped dreaming that by some miraculous twist of fate we would become rich & famous, would life be worth living?

When we’ve worn our sensitivity as a badge of honor, wouldn’t shedding it make us look too callous?

Could we release our need to be perfect without disappointing those who admire us?

If we curtailed our rash actions & impulsivity, would that make us look less “macho” or self-assured?

And how, in heaven’s name, can anyone be free from anxiety?

The answer to all of these questions is: “Time.”

TODAY’S STEP: I accept that recovery takes time.
