Resisting Negativity 26 Apr
Some people are carriers of negativity. They are storehouses of pent-up
anger and volatile emotions. Some remain trapped in the victim role and
act in ways that further their victimization. And others are still
caught in the cycle of addictive or compulsive patterns.
Negative energy can have a powerful pull on us, especially if we're
struggling to maintain positive energy and balance. It may seem that
others who exude negative energy would like to pull us into the darkness
with them. We do not have to go. Without judgment, we can decide it's
okay to walk away, okay to protect ourselves.
We cannot change other people. It does not help others for us to get off
balance. We do not lead others into the Light by stepping into the
darkness with them. ..M.B.

Amen to that, I can so relate. I still struggle at times with negativity and have to work like he!! to combat it some days. I have to create a positive environment to survive and thrive in and set up boundaries to keep out toxic thinkers. My guard only has to be down ever so slighly and bingo I am hooked. I must take things one day at a time but at times it can be quite difficult when you have health issues that are a trigger point for negativity. For many acoa being positive is not a natural thing but I try and remember how I affect people both inside and outside the home and I try and make someones day a little brighter for having crossed my path. thats me.

I had unresolved anger issues over my health for so long. I doubt that they are all gone because I still get frustrated when I can't pick up a 50 pound iron plant holder and move it where I want it moved. The loss of control can be unnerving.
When I began to accept the limitations of my physical body and started doing the things I could about them, my attitude was better. Physical problems that are not my fault in any way are the hardest. Mr. Arthritis and the constant pain were great reasons to drink - rationalization. The liver damage wasn't something I was concerned about in my stinking thinking.
But I have to remember that my Higher Power is there - always. He doesn't move - I do. He gives me the strength to make that next doctor's appt, give myself an injection and to try to be a plus in this crazy world. The gardening I do reminds me of the cycles of nature - it has balance. And that, for me, is what recovery is about.
