I think that my own chldren have afftected by drinking too.
They are not alcoholics, but the hurting child in me that never grew up affected them.

:46: sea queen, both of my parents were alcholic, my mother passed away as a direct result of this disease, and my father has been in recovery for twenty years. I have an older daughter who is an addict, and yes I am an addict.

:101: is what I have to do, turn my will and life over, daily.

:105: make yourself at home here.

Hi Sea Queen....neither of my parents were alcoholics but they had all the isms of alcoholism without the drink. In other words they practiced all the dysfunctional behaviors sober and raised me that way. so I grew up thinking that most families perfected the art of denail, repressed feelings, had power and control issues, and were in general emotionally unavailable to others. This was normal to me until it became too painful to live that way anymore. At first glance I never thought I was an ACOA....but dysfunctional family systems do NOT require an alcoholics pressence....they dysfunctional behaviors "outlive" the alcoholic and get passed down from generation to generation. When I looked at the checklist of ACOA problems, characteristics....I found I was looking at myself, and saw my brothers, sister ect too. you are not crazy, nor are you the only one....There is a solution too.

I have to get "reality checks" from trusted members of the program too. just to make sure I am in "healthy" thinking. I am not a bad person trying to get good ..... I am a sick person trying to learn how to live Healthy.

so hang around and grow with us ok? We are here to support eachother:42:

Well, I always say I was a pure bred, myself, SeaQueen, thinking there were very few people that didn't drink alcohol. So if you meet enough of us in recovery you'll realize how you are NOT unique. This is a family disease that we pass on by genes and/or behavior, IMO.

Anyway, this is a WE program and we share our experience, strength and hope with each other.
