I know there is more of a chance to become an alcholic if your parent is one, but what if instead you develop an alcohol intolerence?

I started drinking when i turned 21, but i don't do it regularly. I would drink maybe 3 night-outs a month if that. I'm a lightweight. I can't drink as nearly as much as my friends can. Lately it's been getting worse, getting sick after 1 or 2 drinks. Two nights ago I had 2 cranberry/vodkas and got extremely ill. My limit of tolerence is going down quickly. I don't have a problem giving up drinking. But i wonder if maybe this has a little bit to do with the fact that my mother is an alcholic, and she drank when she was pregnet with me.

My boyfriend never herd of anyone ever coming up with a question like this before, but there might be a relation.

Or maybe not.

H there fragile, you have posted an interesting question. I think to define an alcoholi is not so much by what they drink, how much they drink or where they drink, but what happens to them when they drink. Often in aa it is spoken of the 'ISMS,' within the individual that is there long before they pick up the alcohol. Putting a drink into their system is like pouring alcohol over a fire. Often there are certain characteristics of the alcoholic that appear in their thoughts feelings and behaviours. Coming from a long blood line of alcoholics, I have seen how with some children of alcoholics they either tend to swing towards alcoholism themselves or they completely revile the stuff. Although this is not to say they have not been affected, often you find that mentally and emotionally they are very badly damaged. As for physcially having a low tolerance towards alcohol, often this ocurs within the alcoholic themselves. I found through my own drinking that as it progressed, it would take only one or two drinks before I would be high, but like all allergies it progressed so despite being high from the first tow or three drinks, I would continue on. Thanks for sharing
