Steps to Freedom

Behind my prison wall I emerge
Feelings and emotions start to surge
I don't like what I feel
And no longer can use to conceal
Full of panic I try to run
But to no avail I know I'm all done
There is nothing left to fill the hole
So tell me now what is the goal
A voice says that God has sent me a guide
No longer do I need to run and hide
My whole life I've searched for relief
And now I have a touch of belief
It tells me to take her hand that it's okay
She'll listen to what I have to say
They are already open, those inner doors
It's the only way to settle my scores
Slowly she'll walk with me into my past
I am told it's wise not to go too fast
She'll help me uncover the guilt, shame and blame
And finally extinguish the raging flame
No longer will I be at war
I'll have the courage to say "No more"
I'm told to go into the heart and into the soul
Then I'll see my part and my role
In order to have peace
I need to finally release
Then maybe, just maybe I'll be free
To be the person I was meant to be
The person who is really me
