Should I go or stay away?

A friend of mine asked me to take her to an ACOC meeting because she's never been to any kind of recovery meeting before, and she's afraid she won't be able to find the club house.

I'm a greatfully recovering alcoholic, and I go to AA meetings at the same club house, which is why my friend asked me. I was wondering: is it okay for me to go to the meeting too, or should I stay away?

I'm not really sure if my parents are alcoholics; however, alcohol has been a big issue in my family. (I'm the only one who is sober.)

I don't see any harm in going as a supportive friend. you may also hear something that you can relate to. if alcohol has been an issue in your family you qualify to be there also.

My parents were not alcoholics..but becuase this is a family disease...they carried the "isms" of alcoholic behaviors and dysfunctional coping skills from their own family or origins...namely my grandparents into our family.

The disease of alcoholism...does not need a drink to survive....all it needs to be is "untreated" and dry and it will continue to wrek havoc on a family and the issues, memories, and programming of childhood continue on long after the active alcoholic has been removed from the famiily. Go and support her....if that is where God is leading you....there mght be a bigger reason than just her.

How would you know? I don't think you or I have enough info to make that blanket statement. drinking alcohol does NOT make anyone an automatic alcoholic.
