Open to Receive
"Sir, don't trouble yourself. I do not deserve to have you come into my house, neither do I consider myself worthy to come to you in person. Just give the order, and my servant will get well." - Luke 7:6-7
The centurion's words carry a further message from the one looked at yesterday. The centurion knows he is not worthy, but he still hopes to receive something. He trusts in Jesus' love, rather than in his own worthiness.
God does not respond to us because we are worthy. He responds to us because he loves us. If you are willing to receive God's love, then you already have it. And when you have it, you are worthy, because God's love makes you that way.
Let us put away the idea that we can ever earn God's love. Who can earn what has already been freely given? It is simply there. Our response is just to accept what is already present, and to be grateful for what has been freely given.
Nothing to earn; everything to accept. It seems a strange way for things to be, Lord, but your thoughts are quite different from ours., I won't try to figure them out. I will just accept you as you say you are.
