Nothing To Do With It

by Gail Rodgers

As I finished speaking some of the women came forward for prayer. It’s the most natural thing for Christian women to bring our requests to our Heavenly Father together. He knows the details and we simply need to agree in asking Him to come in power into situations and lives.

A young woman approached me. She was struggling with issues surrounding fear. She told me that God seemed to be nudging her to quit watching a certain detective show on TV. The program didn’t bother her husband. Could it be God? What difference could it make if she watched this interesting program or not?

God knows us better than we know ourselves. Some have sensitivities within their spirit that may seem unusual to others. Some things can foster fear or negativity, discontentment or rebellion in one and not the other.

It’s important to pay attention when the Holy Spirit nudges. God knows what will foster attitudes, emotions and thoughts that can take us in directions away from Him. When we are asking for Him to come in power into our lives and situations He may put His finger on something that needs to go. And it may make no sense on the surface.

In Psalm 101 God addresses this very thing through the writings of David. He was a man who was well acquainted with the draw of the heart away from God and the pain it can cause. He wrote,

“I will sing of your love…..I will walk in my house with a blameless heart. I will set before my eyes no vile thing…I will have nothing to do with evil” (Psalm 101:2, 3).

The heart and the eyes work hand in hand. In the privacy of our homes we must be conscious and careful what we set before our eyes. When we desire to sing of His love He may nudge our Spirit to bring our hearts in line with that desire. If He does, pay attention because your life will be enriched as you do.

~Father God,
Thank you that when I ask You to draw my heart in line with Yours, You do that. Show me if there are things I set before my eyes that touch my spirit in ways that do not build me up. Reveal to me any changes I need to make even in the TV shows and movies I watch or the magazines I read and the Internet searching I do. Thank you that Your Spirit works to bring my spirit in line with Your good desires for my life. In the powerful name of Jesus I pray, amen.

Questions to ponder: Has God been nudging you in any way to make a change in some behavior? How are you planning on making that change? How do you know if it is God who is asking you to do this?
