Last night at a class for my 2nd DWI the counselor told us about writting a letter to alcohol remembering some good times and then the bad and then saying good bye to the drug of choice. I recently had a SLIP 3 days after my 1 Yr. birthday. I am back in the program and working with a new sponsor and have just been feeling like I was mourning alcohol (just really sorta sad) in a weird way. This letter idea really lifted my spirits and I am thinking I may give it a whirl. It is weird this time as I am "feeling" through the steps whereas the first time I was just petrified and sorta numb. Does anyone have any experience, strength and hope to share about mourning alcohol, 2nd time around steps 1,2 &3 or a good bye letter?

Thanks,

Angela

Hi Angela :17: Glad you are here. I have relapsed twice since entering AA. The first time was after 1and a half years, the second time i had six years and i relapsed. For me personally, i needed to get serious about working the steps of the program. I had just got a new sponsor who proved to be excellent for me, She walked me through those steps like a mother holds her childs hand. Steps 1,2, and 3, one simple way suggested to me to look at them was seeing Step 1 - I can't Step 2 - He can step 3 - I will let Him him. I read what the Big book said about those steps and read the 12 Steps and 12 Traiditons it all gave me a better understanding. My life is so much better today now that i apply the steps to my life. I have heard of writing goodbye letters but i have never done a goodbye letter to alcohol. when i think of what Alcohol cost me and how miserable it made me it helps me be extremely grateful today to be in recovery. Hang in there Angela and remember to take things, :91: Keep coming back.
