"You bragged that you could tear down the Temple and then rebuild it in three days—so show us your stuff! Save yourself! If you're really God's Son, come down from that cross!" (Matthew 27:40 — The Message)
Men of the temporal world, men of reason (the logical and tangible), they were incapable of looking past what their eyes could see and looking into the spiritual realm. They did not understand that Jesus was the temple He was referring to when He spoke of the Temple being torn down and rebuilt in three days. They did not understand that the kingdom that the Messiah was going to create — what they were “looking” for — was a spiritual one and not a physical one that would overthrow the Roman government.
They were learned men, well versed in the scriptures and the knowledge of their day. They had embraced knowledge and power, choosing to live from the mind instead of living from their heart. The heart is the well-spring of life; therefore they missed the very one they were looking for.
How often do we miss what God is doing? How is God blessing us? We miss it because when we become temporal-minded people. Oh that we could have the scales removed for our eyes and see past this matrix of the “real” world and see into the spiritual realm. Perhaps we can’t fully see into that realm, but we can certainly learn to live from our hearts and hear our Father speaking to us about the spiritual. Are we not spiritual beings as well as physical? Should we not develop our spiritual awareness as well as our physical knowledge, lest we too miss what God is doing in our lives and what He is trying to tell us?
You have been trained in the ways of the world's knowledge. Now train yourself in the ways of God, the ways of the spirit. Spend time letting Him speak to you and teach you His ways.
