Pride

Pride
Carol87 - Fri 20 Jan, 2006 11:11 am
Post subject: Pride This is an excerpt from a daily e-mail ...

Quote:
"Pride is faith in yourself, instead of faith in God.

The root of pride is selfishness: putting yourself first. Thinking you are the most important. Thinking you know the
most. Thinking you deserve better than someone else.

Pride will cause you to go your own way instead of God's way. Pride makes you think you do not need God's advice or help.

Pride is the root of all sin. It causes you to turn away from God instead of turning to Him. All disobedience has pride as
its root. All rebellion has pride behind it. All mistreatment of other people is caused by pride: putting yourself and your
feelings above the other person and their feelings.

While the world may promote the proud for a short time, their fame and success will not last."

__________
It reminds me of what we learn in the BB and 12 and 12:

Quote:
"Almost none of us liked the self-searching, the leveling of our pride, the confession of shortcomings which the process requires for its successful consummation." Page 25, BB

"Seven Deadly Sins of pride, greed, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth. It is not by accident that pride heads the procession. For pride, leading to self-justification, and always spurred by conscious or unconscious fears, is the basic breeder of most human difficulties, the chief block to true progress. Pride lures us into making demands upon ourselves or upon others which cannot be met without perverting or misusing our God-given instincts. ... " Page 48, 49 12 and 12

__________
I especially like the definition "Pride is faith in yourself, instead of faith in God" -- It reminds me to look at me to see where I am the problem so I can take appropriate action. And reminds me to rely on my higher power, whom I choose to call God. Necessary for ME to achieve serenity.

Cassie, this is an incredibly helpful way of understanding pride, thank you.
