Fear is to be feared

Fear can really set you back and keep you there. Fear can ruin your life, if you let it. There is, of course, healthy fear (which I call caution). The kind that keeps you safe, like from fire, or falling, or your "sixth sense" of protection. This kind of fear is a wonderful tool. But the kind of fear that’s just a bad, irrational habit from childhood, the one that prevents you from changing or doing your best, the fear that freezes you in your tracks – is worthless. It exists only for itself. It must do anything it can in order to preserve itself. It will surface at the worst of times. I recommend just putting that kind of useless fear aside. Surrender it to God, and ask for it to be relieved. Let it burn in the fire of your energetic, productive, growing self. _________________ Janbear: Site Admin Joined: 15 Mar 2005 Posts: 5529 PostPosted: 09 May 2005 06:18 am As i keep my faith in God and the 12 step program my fears seem to dissipate. But i wouldnt be true to myself if i said my faith doesnt waver at times especially when a crisis occurs. I do though have i believe a healthy fear of drugs and alcohol. _________________ cassie: Moderator Joined: 16 Mar 2005 Posts: 1029 PostPosted: 09 May 2005 07:19 am Quote: Let it burn in the fire of your energetic, productive, growing self. I created them into reality subconcsiously I think to get them over with. the ones that occasionally float in and out of my life....have never come to pass. and the imobolizing kind of fear was a result of not having a higher power in my life. thank god I no longer live that way today. I prefere the spiritual principal of Prudence today......... The state, quality, or fact of being prudent. Careful management; economy. SYNONYMS: prudence , discretion , foresight , forethought , circumspection These nouns refer to the exercise of good judgment, common sense, and even caution, especially in the conduct of practical matters. Prudence is the most comprehensive: "She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older" (Jane Austen). Discretion suggests wise self-restraint, as in resisting a rash impulse: "The better part of valor is discretion" (Shakespeare). Foresight implies the ability to foresee and make provision for what may happen: She had the foresight to make backups of her computer files. Forethought suggests advance consideration of future eventualities: The empty refrigerator indicated a lack of forethought. Circumspection implies discretion, as out of concern for moral or social repercussions: "The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection" (Samuel Adams). gail _________________ cassie: Moderator Joined: 16 Mar 2005 Posts: 1029 Gail wrote: Quote: The state, quality, or fact of being prudent. Today, being sober, I hope for the best and try to prepare for other outcomes - NOT the worst in every situation. |
