I started drinking at 13 and really started abusing alcohol in the Navy in 1967.
By 1969 I was somking pot and taking codine. 1970 speed, LSD, downers ect.
But always alcohol and thus I consider it my drug of choice. As I look back over the next 30 yrs. I used and abused alcohol and drugs and was able to work and maintain a somewhat real life. The last 5 yrs of my addiction the wheels came off and it was jail and more jail and finally a locked down psych ward. From the locked down psych ward I went into recovery at the Long Beach VA. Recovery has been very good to me. My DOS is 8/8/97 and there have been lots of up's and down's but clean and sober I have been able to maintain a new and grateful life. Love in recovery... John

Even though I used drugs I consider alcohol to be my drug of choice too.I gave up drugs first then I saw how dependent on alcohol I was.
