chicken fried macandcheese
Hi all, went to another pot luck last night and tried another of the recipes Iv'e been wanting to try. This one was deep fried macaroni and cheese.
First thing I did was make the mac&cheese on Friday. I put chopped roasted green chilis in mime, (one of the stores here in AZ roasts them fresh, but canned will do). Put the mac&cheese in the frig to set up. Next day, I cut the mac&cheese into small squares. (I made mine a bit too big to be real managable, but I'm also lazy, and more squares, means more wrapping, battering, etc...) Take each square, and wrap with a slice of bacon,(use a toothpick to hold them together), (I used thick slice bacon, but I think thinner would've cooked better) then dredge in flour, (I put white pepper and garlic powder in my flour), then egg wash, then panke (?) bread crumbs. (I was told any unseasoned bread crumbs will do. I had leftover Panke, (japanese bread crumb) so I used those). Then fry in shortening...I also made a quick country gravy with Farmer john sausage, flour, milk, salt and pepper. It surprized alot of people. They didn't know you could deepfry mac&cheese...Tasted good too..... hope somebody else trys it. It'd be fun to make if you got kids to help. |
