Hamburger Stew also known as Poor Man's Stew

2 1/2 pounds ground beef browned and grease drained off
1 small can cream of mushroom soup OR 1 packet of brown gravy mix
3 cups water
1 TB minced onion OR 1 medium onion diced
1 ts garlic powder OR 2 cloves garlic
1 ts oregano
1 ts red pepper
1 bay leaf
1 TB ketchup
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1/2 cup diced celery
1 small can sliced mushrooms
1 ts honey
1 ts lemon juice
salt and black pepper to taste

Add the above ingredients first as listed and let cook until green pepper and celery are tender then add the rest of the ingredients below and cook until done.

1 can sliced carrots liquid drained out OR 3 medium sized carrots sliced
4 or 5 cans whole potatoes liquid drained out OR 4 to 5 lbs potatoes peeled
Add more water until all ingredients are covered.

Once done serve up with biscuits or some fresh homemade bread. Great during the cold months.

**My aunt use to make this stew and this is her basic recipe:

re: hamburger and eggs

In Hawaii, I remember eating egg burgers. Basically a burger with a fried egg added.
I ate most of them in the No Ka Oi shipyard or as we called it "No Can Do!".
