Sponsorship

In my sort time in A.A., I have had my share of sponsors and am very grateful for all of them! I got want I was supposed to get. In the transitions times, I stayed close to the program, meetings, in service and I spent a lot of time talking with others, until that person was shown to me.

What I’ve learned is that sponsors are human, doing the best they can do, just like I am. My problem was that I had unreasonable expectations of them and, let’s just say, I also put them on pedestals. It took me some time to realize that they were here to guide me through the Steps the best they could. This has taught me that my faith has to be in that Power greater than myself or any other human.

Today, I have found that sponsor that will kick my butt when it needs it. I can also let her be where she is and respect, love and support her too.

I don’t hear the topic of sponsorship brought up that often in face to face meetings and I would like to offer the topic of sponsorship here. If you like, please feel free to share your experience, strength and hope.
