Can I sponsor be a romantic partner?

My friend told me that he was living with his sponsor. After six months, I found out it was a woman. No doubt he is using her but can she be?

I am learning.

Thanks

Good question hurtingforme, I belong to the fellowship of A.A. and there is a pamphlet “Questions and Answers on Sponsorship” that could answer any questions you may have on the subject of Sponsorship. http://aa.org/lang/en/catalog.cfm?category=4&product=17

For myself, I believe in men working with men and women working with women. "Experience has taught us this."

If you have any more questions after checking out the pamphlet please fill free to ask.

Thank you!
Keep on Learning

we do men with men and women with women.u so right francie.i couldnt use my sponsor if i tried he is hell on wheelslol.for me i dont think i picked my sponsor god picked HIM becouse my picker broken.remember we are stakin our lives on our decision we make like steps and sponsorship.we need to look at them before we ask.we need to ask them have they work the steps accordin to the book.and also do they have a sponsor of there own who is activly workin the program.not becouse the have good story or becouse the are cool and have nice car.i have done both and this time i got sponsor who actually had done somthing for his recovery, and had me do some thing.he layed a few spiritual tools at my feet and it has been 5yrs and we still great freinds be blessed

The Sponsor

Well, no doubt she is not his sponsor, rather a woman he met. She may be in recovery too but she is def not his sponsor as I read this pamphlet.

When you say your sponsor would not allow you to use him, I understand that.

He is using her for other things, a relationship, what he sees as stability. I have no idea if he is attending meetings again, I hope he is but I doubt he is or he wouldn't have lied to me about where he was.

Just the lies tell me, there are many red flags going up. Lies upon lies upon lies tell me that he is more than likely using again.

Sad sad and more sad. He talked the talk really well, but he wasnt walking it.
If he was not using, then why lie about where he lived and with whom?

The things I drank over were romance and finance. I came to AA to get sober. I picked a sponsor that I could not romance or have finance with. I don't want to drink again, so I don't do the things that used to get me drunk.
