Don't give up on giving up

I stopped smoking cigarettes over 8 years agao and it took me about ten years to convince myself that was what I really wanted to do.
The final decision was very easy though as it was making me feel so crappy all the time.
So anyway, on a recent trip to India I started smoking 'bidis' which are pure tobacco wrapped in a tendu leaf. I only started smoking them to pass the time on the long train journeys.
To cut a long story short I ended up smoking well over 600 bidis and just ran out yesterday after a two month smoking habit.
I spent most of yesterday in bed feeling dizzy, sick and pretty sorry for myself, all the time knowing that tobacco would put me right.
So today is day 2 and I know for a fact that I'm not going to start smoking again. Its just such a destructive, poisonous habit and my life is so much better without it.
The only thing I use it for is to create a barrier between me and anyone around me and I know that I dont need to do that.
So all I'm saying here is never give up giving up.
It can feel like the hardest thing in the world to resist but the rewards are great if you just push yourself to go a little further.

Thanks for sharing Andre. I've spent the last year trying to quit and then starting again. Today my daughter told me she is in a methadone program and is not going to meetings. I went out and bought cigars after the meeting.

how are you doing? I quit using tobacco today, again. (smokeless tobacco). At least I'm giving it a shot. Have quit before for several years each time, and it always has managed to make it's way back into my life. Just a reminder to self, Uh, self, this is disgusting stuff, expensive and dangerous. Time to put it down. Take care, Rob P

Well I'm ashamed to say that I started again soon after making that post.
