Topic for Nov 15-21: Let go and Let God
"There is never any reason to worry about anything. Worry does nothing but cause anxiety. If there is a problem that you are worried about STOP worrying. Just say a little prayer and let go of the problem and let God work it out. Then, trust, with all your heart that God will solve the problem, or bring the answer to you, or make the situation go away. Whatever you are worried about becomes bigger the more you worry about it."
Despite the clear message of this text; despite my understanding and practice of prayer and meditation; despite my faith growing stronger everyday... every morning I need to renovate my faith, remind myself who is in charge and purposely surrender. Some days my ego wakes up stronger than others and then I struggle... The Power of letting go and letting God brings me peace, calm, a certainty that everything is going to be ok. How Do We deal with our ego-driven mind in daily basis to let go and let God? |

Great Topic! I guess the simplest answer is "I can't, "He" can, so I'll let him". Unfortunately I have a simple program which I can over complicate!!!. My morning Step 3 prayer is really important to me and sometimes I repeat it throughout the day, depending on what is going on in my head. Daily Readings and The Serenity Prayer are comforting, as well as pausing for a few deep breaths to remember that at the end of the day "I" am not that important.

Personally I like to hang onto things until my sanity is in question, then I ask for Creator's help. I call it a 3rd Step.

I always thought letting go was easy until I did my fourth step. After doing a fourth and fifth step I discovered that I had and have a major problem with letting go. Instead I do as fishermen do......
A fisherman will go out on the ocean in hopes of that one big catch. He finally hooks a beauty of a fish, a marlin. In order to keep it on the line he must LET GO of line then reel it in. This sort of game goes on until he finally has all CONTROL and brings the fish on to the deck. Once the Marlin is taken out of the water it will thrash and whip anything in its path until its freed. Total INSANITY. Finally the fish gets of the boat and the fisherman is hurt and his ego and pride are faultered. This is exactly how I let go of things when I try to do it on my own. I will continue to try to bring the one thing that causes insanity back into my life. Then when I lose it I feel rejected and my pride and ego get in the way... I scream "DONT YOU KNOW WHO I AM" THe reality is If I turned it over to my Higher Power and went through the cycles of letting go I would save myself alot of pain........ Today I am aware of this major defect and am learning through a.a. and my fellow friends a new way of doing things.... sam |

Good Morning
![]() I wanted to share something really quick with you ladies and gentlemen, When I first came into recovery I did not believe that there was a GOD. I use to pray so much to him to help me since I was young and nothing ever changed in my life it just got worst. GOD there was no God I hated him. They told me Sonia fake it till you make it, so I started praying but I knew I was truly not feeling him in my heart. Well in September of 2000 "going on 1 year clean the next month" Sept 8th, I lost my job, Sept15, my boyfriend broke up with me to be with another girl, sept 20th I had to put my cat to sleep ![]() I could not take it I wanted to die, so what I did was go to a church when no one was there I got down on my knees and I looked up at the statue of GOD and broke down in tears and prayed with all my heart. I did not fake it anymore and it was at that very moment I believed he was always there for me , has been and still is I felt him in my heart and I knew I was going to be okay... I just wanted to share this because that was my first powerful day that I truly felt GOD. so now I my quote that I say now is.....LET GOD and LET GO......... Thanks Sonia |

In the mornings, when I get out of bed, I still say outloud "thank you God". But, somedays, I'm not where I need or like to be and I'll start that thinking "I gonna, and I'll tell them, and if they don't or won't, I'll... on and on, etc...
I'm so thankful for being able to follow the suggestions I got about getting a morning routine of prayer and meditation. I normally read 2 or 3 meditations and really focus on the one that fits what's wrong with me that day. Then the prayers. 3rd Step and the 7th and I've gotten back to using the St. Francis Prayer again. I'll never be that saintly, but I can aim in that direction. Anyway, I too will take things back durning the day, but today I don't keep them as long as I use to. Thanks for the topic

If I could "Let Go and Let God" in EVERY single area of my life, I don't think I would need the programme to help me. Saying that. As our books says, I am striving for spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection. WHAT a relief to realise this. I like to call it AA's " get in clauses " All my life I have always looked for the " get out clauses " to use as excuses to have things done the easier, softer way. My biggest get out clause in life was to bend my elbow and open my mouth and pour as much booze into it as possible.Today, with the help of my higher power through the programme, the more I allow God's given instincts into my life instead of MY instincts, the more I RECIEVE the graces of God's spirit........ Love ,Peace and Joy. Not JUST for me but for others as well.
