Chantix

Chris,I quit smoking with Chantix and I am on an antidepresant. It makes you a little moody but so does cold turkey quitting.I found I had to stay away from smokers for a while,It is as much mental quitting as physical.Good luck jusy keep trying.

Hi chris, I know people that chantix worked well for and successfully quit with it.
I believe it was last year, i got a prescription from my family Dr. for it. It seemed to curb my desire for it. I believe it was within a month i was hospitalized. I have been diagnosed with mental disorders andi am being treated for in which antidepressants are a part of the therapy. My Dr. in the hospital who knew me well and the nature of my disorders told me i had no buisness taking chantix. It seemed to lessen the effects of all my meds and then my disoders became very active. It may help to let others know that i am bipolar and schiziod-affective(characteristic of schizophrenia)
That is my experience, my suggestion to anyone desiring to quit smoking usning chantx, Make sure your Dr. has full knowlege of any conditions you may have mental or otherwise. Please talk with all Drs. that are treating you for anything, please.

I was hosptalized mainly because of my schizoid-affective disorder. I am also bipolar. The meds. i take for that and the chantix together was a bad mix for me. I am to take a med to keep my characteristic of schizophrenia under control. It works well for me. Again, my only suggestion is to talk to your Doctor very thouroughly about what you take. I should have talked to my Family Doctor and Psychiatrist before starting it. Anyway, i learned from my mistakes and everything is ok today. I still believe i can quit smoking, i will simply use another method. I expect a miracle and Chris miracles can happen for you as well and it maybe that you can take chantix, i dont know. Maybe i personally should use the 12-steps on smoking like i did on drugs and alcohol.

Expect a Miracle

Medications

The thing about Chantix and other medications is that in the absence of nicotine the medications will all act differently. A person should work closely with their doctor to make sure their medications are at appropriate levels. It's normal to be moody when you are detoxing from drugs. Nicotine is the drug you are detoxing from, however the Chantix will help to relieve the symptoms of detox because it elevates the amount of dopamine (in the pleasure center) that your brain is producing. Work with your doctor. There is no magic pill. Recovery from addiction is a process...it's not an event. Don't let anyone prescribe medication for you or diagnose you that is not your doctor.

chris0531,Both the doctor and the pharmacist have drug interaxction software now.It is hard to determine who is right. You are your own judge.
