Hi everyone...I am hilt26 from Georgia. I am 26 years old and a cocaine addict. I have been struggling and telling myself for a year now that I could quit anytime, but I don't think I have that power yet. I feel so guilty and ashamed of my problem and I have pretty much cut ties with all of my friends. None of them know that I use and that includes my family. I have a really great job and I am so scared that this will affect that. My life is pretty much in neutral right now, but I think about my future all the time and the things I want out of it. I am so hopeful that I can get back on track, because I really miss life.

Hi Hilt26 welcome! You came to the right place. Your fears are founded in that most cocaine addicts do lose everything or worse dead. May I suggest that you contact your local NA group and start going to NA and ofcourse come here as well. I don't know how much you are using,but a doctor's help might be needed too. I used cocaine 18 years ago and went to a rehab to give it up. I too felt shame and guilt in using because I had two little ones at home. I did't use tons or everyday,but just the fact that I used and used money I really did't have on coke made me an addict. Please keep coming back and telling us how your doing. Zoomie is spot on in telling you that everything is at risk. I am cassie, grateful recovering alcoholic. Seeking help is the best thing you can do. AA/NA are support groups where real people help each other develop skills to overcome addiction through the suggested 12 Steps. I hope you will continue to come here to read and share. You really don't have to be alone.

Glad you are here hilt26, keep coming. We welcome you with open arms. When you are ready, all you have to do is ask. There are no strings attached, no dues to pay. Recovery is free, and so is Jesus.
I too am an addict. Thirty-one years using, fifteen months clean, praise the Lord.
Keep sharing, it works.

hi hilt26, so many good things have been suggested, i know the 12 step programs have saved my life and can yours too.
please make yourself at home and look around the board. i hope you will keep coming back.

Hi Hilt - your story sounds like mine - I am an alcoholic but was a functional one and I quit before *most* people knew what was up. Consider yourself very lucky! Even though my story (probably like yours) isn't as tragic as some, I am grateful for my recovery every second of every day. Keep coming back.

Hilt26. When I got sober 19 years ago I was out of control and I knew it. I didn't know how I was going to get through one day without a drink. I had stopped using cocaine and rx drugs first in Sept 86. I stopped drinking in Feb 87. I did it by praying to God to let me die or make me well. I knew I had to stop drinking and I did one day at a time. It was the most important decision I ever made. I stayed sober by going to AA meetings. You can have your life back. Thanks for letting me share my experience, strength, and hope with you. Good luck and don't forget to pray to have the obsession to use removed. It works if you work it.

Hi Hilt, Welcome. Not to sound too bold, but being scared is a good thing. Your job will eventially become effected because, unfortunately, that is the way it goes. It seems that you want to quit, so keep coming back here and consider going to NA meetings. They are both helping me greatly. I was recovered for 7 years and relapsed, but i keep coming here and going to meetings and right now I am 10 days clean and counting. Wish you all the luck. April
