I NEED SOME HELP

MIKE...Addict...8 days today.....I'm going to meeting regularly, talking to my sponsor and I have committments at 2 meetings. Everynight when I go home I write about the day but, I dont feel like the writing I'm doing is helping my recovery at all. I write about what I did that day , How i felt and whats going on in my head now. I've been told it's very good that i'm doing this so early in my recovery but I feel like I need to touch on some more stuff. CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME HELP ON THINGS TO WRITE ABOUT THAT WILL HELP ME GET MORE INTO MY RECOVERY?
I don't know if anyone knows what I mean but if you do, help me out please

Hey Mike

First, congrats on 8 days of clean time. Take a second to breathe in that accomplishment. Second, congrats on taking the time to write some of your feelings out -- I found that to be a great source of relief in early recovery. Just to get it out of myself and onto paper really helped to alleviate the emotions that sometimes seemed to painful or strong to bear. Third, realize that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. If you're like me, that wasn't good enough in early recovery. I pushed to get "all the answers," as fast as possible. I about drove myself crazy doing it. When I was at the brink, I learned to let go and trust that the program - thr group / my HP / whatever works for you was not going to let me fall on my ass if i was sincerely working a good program -- meaning a. getting a sponsor, b. going through the steps, c. going to meetings, sharing, d. getting into the Big Book, e. making connections with other sober addicts, etc. etc.

Recovery takes time. We didn't get sick overnight, we won't get well overnight. I know you want to be "fixed" NOW (or maybe how about yesterday? :))! I get better results now that I have learned over time to try to do my best every day and leave it at that. This helps me not to panic, waiting for the other shoe to drop at every second. If I'm doing my best, then shouldn't that be enough? I hope you can keep it in the day, it's the best way in my humble opinion.

It does work if you work it ... Keep up the good work, hang in there, and don't use no matter what. It does get better and easier, I promise.

Hi Mike. If you're writing about your day, what you did and how you feel, what else can you write about? You can start writing down your character defects as they come up. For example you're feeling impatient with your recovery. What do you do and how do you act when you're feeling impatient? For me putting things down on paper clarifies things. You're learning about yourself and beginning to identify feelings, that was a tough one for me in early recovery.Free2bunme gave you some good advise. Try to live just one day at a time. Things will become clearer as you stay clean. Early sobriety is tough I wouldn't want to do it again. At 8 days I was still physically sick. I tried to do things right away that I couldn't do yet like driving my kids to school. I commend you for getting active in your groups. Do you pray? The Serenity Prayer still helps me a lot I say it every night. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be ok. Hope I said something that you can use. Keep coming back.

Thanks guys.....The part about writing about the feelings as they come up is just what I needed to hear....I am very impatient and when I get the slightest feeling of something good, I want more of it and RIGHT NOW....
as of right now I am feeling so good..connected...talking to people...committments..making calls...sharing, and it's like I cant get enough, I want it all right now
anyway thank you so much for your input I really appreciate it

Hi Mike, the first few weeks of my recovery are foggy. I went into treatment after a 30 day stay in a psych ward. I did allot of writing in treatment mostly on what had happened and how I felt about it and what I was going to do to change. As much as I wanted to I couldn't make time go any faster. It took what it took One day at a time, hang in there my friend your doing great.

8 days that is huge! Congratulations on your starting of a new life. I journal also, and from what I have been told that it is probably better for us to write just as you are doing. I know that when I look back at the things that I wrote, then I can see the progress that I have made. None of us do this thing perfect, imagine that! So I would say that you are right where you need to be and also don't be so wrapped up into perfectionism. That is a part of us that takes us back out. Keep posting that is huge also.

Love JAJ

Hi Mike on beginning the journey. I have found writting to be very helpful and healing. one thing I liked to do early in recovery and we do it here on this board too. Is I would read a daily morning meditation from one of the recovery related books/posts. they are usually short, to the point, and would bring up some good topics for me to relate to.

free journaling took me some time....I had a real hard time identifying feelings also when I was new....but the daily readings helped open me up to explore them.

hope this helps

light and love

Gail

writing is a good way to let yourself pour out. you dnt write only about your day, but write also about how you feel, what is going on inside your mind and what sorts of emotions are coming to you.to me, writing always made me feel bette and once i start writing i cnt never stop until my hands ache and my head gets foggy and i feel my brain going numb.
