Unhappy hurting

Does the pain ever stop when you know the one person you love the most in the world is killing themselves and there is nothing you can do about it?

Hi sadashell
You didn't really say what sort of problem you are facing - but there are people out there who counsel those that are having problems because of loved ones. There are many good resources on the site here for the issues of addictioi - please feel free to ask for any information you might need to help in your pain. Any administrator or moderator will certainly try to help or find someone who can. You don't have to be alone.

Accepting the Dis-ease of addiction, helps me let go of my husband's smoking and lung power.

Yesterday, we made the bed, as we have over the last 14 plus years. I cover the frist corner, then he the one accross from mine. I then cover the bottom corner on my side, he then does the last corner of the fitted sheet. Last night he did not have the strength of pull on the last corner without my help. When the bed was made, he sat down and inhaled straight oxygen.

Now he is still smoking cigarrets and sleeping with oxygen at night, but the smoking is taking his strength from him. Thank you, God, that he is not drinking as that is the dis ease he goes to meetings to keep in control.

Just as I can not control his arm when, if, he chooses to pick up a drink, I can not change his smoking behavior. That is between God and my husband.

I can pray, I can ask other's to pray for us, but my husband, (my A), is the person who can change his own life.

From a sad wife, but with faith in my higher power.

You don't say if the person is suffering from an addiction. I'm assuming that's what you mean by saying they are killing themselves. You can get support for yourself through Alanon or Naranon. We're powerless over someone else's addiction.

This may not be the best way, but in those cases I usually say what I think and then detach with love. Usually that means telling them I'm not willing to watch anymore, and then walking away. We all have our own path - maybe dying is part of theirs. Sorry to say, but it's true.
