Drunk Dreams / Using Dreams

Have you experienced drunk dreams / using dreams since you have gotten sober and clean?

Though I haven't had one in quite a while, I have had drunk dreams. When I have had a drunk dream, they have felt so real. I have awakened from some feeling like it really happened. I was so grateful when I finally realized that it was just a dream and that I was still sober.

Yes and they were like nightmares! Waking up in the fear is horrible. I was so relieved when I realized it was just a dream, I wanted to cry - happy tears!

Oh, yes, drunk and using dreams! And yes, they are like nightmares to me as well. Thank God it has been a long time since i have experienced them.

Yes I have had and sometimes do have drunk dreams. Early on they were more upsetting than they are now. Now I take them as just a reminder I'm an alcoholic.

The 2 weeks between my 4th and 5th I had killer nightmares. Using and drinkin' with the terror and fear that I always felt. Finished my 5th, didn't dream for a few days, then dreamed about recovery, one night a 2yr chip, the next night a 4yr chip. I pay attention to the using dreams to sort of take inventory on what is going on with me. I maybe crazy, probably.....

I've had at least two drunk dreams since my A got sober. Mine are Al-anon drunk dreams.

He is drunk in my dreams, not me. So I can not control the outcome. I have to accept at another level that I am powerless over another person and all I can do is work my program.

I will have 9 months on April 28th and I have started having very vivid drunk dreams the last few weeks. They are almost nightly now and they have really started to bother me. I had them pretty bad off and on the first 90 days or so, but they went away almost completely until recently. I'm not sure what the trigger is, but they are so real. I'm always at the bar and it's my old usual, either Jack and Coke or Screwdrivers. I keep thinking that I've wasted all that hard work on a drink and in my dreams I tell myself that a few drinks are ok and that my sobreity is intact. I guess it's just my disease trying to mess with my head. I am 34 and was a daily, all day, drinker for years. I ended up in the hospital with ulcers on my small intestine, an enlarged liver with fat, and elevated enzymes. Since getting sober, an ultrasound shows no scarring and my enzymes and blood tests have all come back good and I feel great, but I know going back out means I'm putting my life in danger. I won't see 40. I've got a wife and 2 small kids. It's just scary to have these dreams. I still go to a meeting almost every day and really try to work the program. I guess talking about it and going to meetings is the best way to deal with it. Thanks for letting me share.

Sometimes a person will have these types of dreams around their sober anniversary. It could be what is happening to you. I have had them and am always so very glad and grateful to wake up and realize I am still sober and clean. Yes do talk about it. Have you shared with your sponsor about it? Since I have quit smoking cigarettes which was in March of 2007, I have had a couple of dreams about smoking a cigarette. The dream is ok just as long as I don't do the action of drinking, smoking, or using in reality.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't talked to my sponsor yet. Keeping in touch with him is probably the weakest part of my program. I'm really bad about calling him on a regular basis. I will do that this weekend. On the good news front, no drunk dream last night. Maybe writing about it helps. :)
