4 Moments of Silence planned for 9/11

I understand from reading an article called "Nation Marks 5th Anniversary of 9/11" four moments of silence were planned for 8:46, 9:03, 9:59 and 10:29 a.m., the times when jetliners struck each of the twin towers, and when each tower fell.

I cannot believe it has been 5 years already. I watched a wonderful documentary (but plays like fiction because it has actors) based on the findings of the 9/11 commission on ABC last night. It continues tonight, highly recommend it.

I was living and working in NY on 9/11/2001. I lived in Queens across the bay from Kennedy airport. I was home that morning and had the news on so I saw it as it happened. In October I went to ground zero to see it for myself. My daughter was working nearby. I saw a wall plastered with pictures of the missing. There was a hole of debris being moved by heavy machinery. I came home with what was like a white ash all over me and my clothes. It covered all the buildings in the area. The wind was blowing it everywhere, it looked like a nuclear storm. After the attack everyone was wearing some version of the American flag. In November 2001 there was a plane crash in Belle Habor Queens one neighborhood away from mine. The day of the crash as I saw black smoke rise I thought we were being attacked again. It was another bright sunny day. In 2004 I moved to PA after living a lifetime in NY.

I remember that Doraine, had forgotten all about it. I thought the same thing. And what with all the constant warnings about viruses, etc being put in the water stream, the MP on every corner and in the subways, all carrying machine guns, the sirens all the time .... i was a nervous wreck for 2 months. I was living in the city at the time of the attacks, our lease was up November 1 and that was when I decided to move to Brooklyn, I could not take the chaos, too much for my already frazzled addict nerves. I remember that day throngs of people walking from ground zero to their respective homes, all covered from head to toe in that white-grey ash like zombies. it was so quite but for the occasional wail, it was so eerie. i guess we were all in shell shock, i remember thinking how orderly everyone was. i am so grateful that i was not any closer to the WTC than I was (midtown). I had friends who had to run for their lives and who had nervous breakdowns afterwards. the magnitude of it hit me a few days later when they cleared canal street. i felt compelled to go down there and see it for myself, "make it real." firetrucks were all over the ground, smashed like pancakes. that gave me my first reference to the sheer enormity of the destruciton. may all those people rest in peace and may they not have died in vain.
