SPEAKING -Surviving With Serenity

SPEAKING

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anonymity and speaking out about the reality of incest are not in conflict with each other. Rather, the principle or anonymity helps us to focus our "speak-outs" on healing and hope while avoiding the pitfall of self-aggrandizement.
Speaking out is best taken on when it aids our personal healing and serves as a means to share with others what we have first recieved. We incest survivors need to be aware not to speak out in ways that lead to a caretaking of others and neglect of our personal needs. That is too reminiscent of the unhealthy ways in which many of us were raised.
Speaking out can be healing and liberating. Through it we are breaking the bonds of enforced silence and offering a message of hope to others in need.
