Sober Moms

Does any one subscribe to the "sober mom" site?? I am hungry for any advise on how to succesfully restore relationships with my daughters-28,17,15 and ran into that site-I am a recovering alcoholic and have had a warm welcome here, but feel a need to talk with someone that has restored relationships with their teens and adult children

Hugs

I'm kai, grateful alcoholic.

Hey, hope you're doing well. Relationship repair is one of the hardest things that I have faced now that I have sobered up. I can really only do anything about my part, how or if I am accepted is a choice that the other person has to make.

Being patient, for me, is the hardest part. But my sponsor told me that I didn't make this mess over night, so it is insane for me to expect to get it all cleaned up over night.

Some of the reactions I got were a little surprising. My oldest son, 17 was really suppportive and happy about my sobriety at first. Then, I started being a mom and expecting him to be a child. That didn't really go over too well. You see, we both had to live in sick and unbalanced behaviors for our lives to keep moving, and that is the way his life was for most of his life.

I can't give up before the miracle. We still grow a little at a time. I have to remember that he did not choose the life that I brought him into. I can only show him, today, that I am doing all I can to make better choices and that I love him. Then I give myself and my relationship with him to God.

Just hang in there. Some things take time, and they are usually worth it.

Love ya later. kai
