First Step Poem

I am starting my mornings
In a whole different way
Admitting my illness
To begin my day
I cannot go on
Saying no to my problem
Addiction to drugs
Is the thing I¹ll be solving
My whole life has been
Repetition of pain
That hurtful emotion
Again and again
OK, I-m an addict
What more can I say
A wise bit of knowledge
For a brand new day
Preparing my first step
And writing it well
Make sure I remember
Drugs took me to he!!
This first step is Crucial
For me to go on
Can-t jump to the second
Until it¹s well done
So this is the work
I am doing today
Surrender my own self
Surrender me well
To the fact that drugs
Only took me to he!!
Develop these thoughts
Until I make sure
The pain was as much
As I could endure
I want to keep going
Today to my meetings
To greet the newcomer
With love and warm greetings
I cannot keep anything
Of all that I¹ve got
If I do not share it
I could go get lost
So when I remember
The time I¹ve been clean
It-s twenty-four hours
That-s just what I mean!
