claiming what is ours

A miracle moment; recieved in email from a course in miracles

Claiming What Is Ours

Lauren, my two year old goddaughter, sat in her highchair at the restaurant kicking her feet up to tap the underside of the table. Her mother whispered, “She wants you to notice her new shoes.” I looked under the table and exclaimed, “New shoes, for Heaven's sake!” With a stern look on her face, she firmly replied, “No, new shoes for Lauren! ”

Those shoes did not belong to “Heaven's sake” -- they belonged to Lauren! There was no doubt in her mind who she was and what belonged to her. Are we as confident?

The goal of A Course in Miracles is to “Know thyself.” The Course tells us that all our sorrows, pains and fears can be healed by the awareness that we are as God created us.

This just seems too simplistic for our complicated minds, but that is why it is true. The ego thought system is filled with confusion and complication, but God is very simple. We are asked to remember who we are: We are as God created us. His Children can suffer nothing and we are His Children. Does that mean that pain, sorrow or fear will not seem to come to us or another? No, but now we know the truth. We can call upon that truth when the darkness of the world seems to come upon us and let the power of God help us to rise above it.

It is time for us to be confident in the truth. When we are tempted by the confusion of the world, let us affirm, “I am as God created me. His Child can suffer nothing and I am His Child.”

In Peace,
Beverly Hutchinson McNeff
