help i don't know how to deal with my mom
I feel like i am going crazy, my mom has had a serious relapse with hard drugs and alcohol after about 20 years sobriety. My step-dad died 3 years ago and since then things have spiralled out of control. I watched her regress right back to her old ways( she was heavy into drugs, alcohol, partying up until i was 6-7 yrs when she met him). Now since we have found out about her drug use, and had a (what i will loosely call )an intervention, she is extremely depressed, and furious with us girls,(her daughters) for making a big deal of her lifestyle. She has been aloof, defensive, and emotionally abusive. It seems as though she is purposely trying to make us worry, by not calling for days after an emotional outburst, stating she can't live like this anymore, life's not worth living etc....
Any way, the anger i'm feeling is scaring me, she has been attending meetings n.a. a.a. and i know i should be happy for that, but i sometimes resent "recovery" because it's all about "her" and taking care of herself now. It makes me sick because in her sobriety it's all about her and definitly when she's using it's all bout her. Think about someone else woman! Has anyone else ever felt like me?

You can go to Naranon or Alanon for the friends & family of drug addicts and alcoholics. As part of her recovery your Mom will have to do a 4th step of all her character defects. Hopefully then she'll get some insight into her behavior. I know it doesn't seem fair to ask you to be patient but recovery takes time. It's a shame she relapsed after 20 years I hate to hear stories like hers. Keep coming here and get the support you need for yourself.
