The Picture

When God created us, he had in mind everything we were meant to be, a kind of completed picture of what we could finally look like. The task of our life journey is to allow God to complete the picture. We do not know fully what it is, but for those who know the gospel, the basic outline is clear. We were created with the capacity to love, to be compassionate, and in a way, to be like God. To the extent that we become like that, people can look at us and see something of God. And we ourselves come to know the peace of Christ that lives within us.

But this may be asking for too much. How could we ever be like that? There is a lot of resistance in us. So when we finally allow God to work fully within us, the results may seem like a miracle. And yet this whole process is something that can begin to happen whenever we wish, even at this present moment, because God never stops offering us the power to be complete.

It's hard to believe, Lord, that this present moment is important enough to become a brushstroke in the overall picture of my life. Yet, nothing about me is unimportant to you. So, this moment is yours, I give it to you. Let it become a part of the final picture which is yet to be.
