It is a most insidious and delusional aspect of our sinful minds that we think we are acceptable to God, loved by Him, blessed by Him, saved by Him, "because of righteous things which we have done." To think this way is to repudiate God's mercy. To think this way is a repudiation of the cross of Jesus Christ.

Only when utterly humbled in repentance, broken and beyond hope in ourselves, can we truly understand and appreciate the blessed reality that we are saved "because of His mercy."

What a blessed and delightful truth, that God is not only merciful, but He takes great delight in exercising His mercy toward us. He so loved us, as to give His Son! The greatest joy can be experienced only by those who know that God is merciful, that God is love!

Prayer For The Day

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great mercy in forgiving all my sins. Thank You for Your great love, which assures me of Your mercy. Thank You for leading me to faith and trust in You. Keep me firm in faith and rejoicing to know You as my loving Father, Amen.
