God Is my Guide

God Is My Guide

by Helen Lescheid

“He leads the humble in what is right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all those who keep his covenant and obey his decrees” (Psalm 25: 9,10 Life Application Study Bible).

When facing a momentous decision, don’t you wish that God would give you more light so that you would know definitely which is the right way to go. When I found myself in such a situation, God spoke to me in a theater, of all places.

I was watching a highschool production of Anne of Green Gables, that spirited orphan girl whose impulsiveness often got her into serious trouble. As each conflict ended in a neat, sometimes hilarious resolution, I thought, Lord, if you’d light up my life like that stage, I’d be better equipped to make wise decisions.

Half - way through the first scene, an usher came down the aisle guiding two late - comers. In his right hand he held a flashlight forming a small circle of light at their feet. Slowly he moved ahead to the appropriate row, then he shone the light onto two vacant seats. He waited patiently until the man and woman had sat down. Then he turned off the flashlight, and walked quietly back to the entrance.

That’s how I lead you! God spoke to me almost audibly. As you read my written Word and obey it, you’ll have enough light to know what step to take next; and then, there’ll be more light for the next step, and the next. Obey the directive you do have. Trust me. I will safely get you to the right place.

I left the theater deeply encouraged. And true to his Word, God led me with unfailing love and faithfulness. He gave me courage to make some very difficult decisions and, in time, I found myself in a much better place again.

~Thank you, Father, that you are faithful to show us the way we should go. For the honor of your name, O LORD, forgive my many sins. Help me to follow you closely. In Jesus name, Amen.
