Sleep In Recovery - 7/5 - 7/11
How was sleeping for you when you first got sober and/clean? How is sleeping for you now?

I have to say in the beginning that going to bed and going to sleep was something I had to learn how to do. When I was drinking, I just drank till I passed out. In the beginning, I slept with a light on at night and still do most of the time. I did most of my sleeping when I drank during the day so I figured the light being on at night would help and it did. In going to sleep, I would say my prayer and usually either read or listen to a recovery tape or a bible tape. I would eventually drift off to sleep. Today I pray and usually read a little bit before I go to sleep. Usually I am asleep within about 30 minutes to an hour after I go to bed. I do on occasion have times when I wake up in the middle of the night. I have prayed myself back to sleep. Sometimes I just get up and do something that is quiet. I try to make sure I get between 6-8 hours of sleep a day. Most of the time I take a short nap during the day.
